On Saturday 12th April, Tim Loughton visited Gala Bingo in Worthing to meet employees and the manager as well as lend a hand by calling out the numbers for their lunchtime game. The visit followed the Chancellor’s announcement in the budget to reduce bingo tax from 20% to 10%, which Tim campaigned for, resulting in Gala being able to recruit more staff.
Tim commented:
‘It was clear from my visit that the Chancellor’s announcement is taking effect in Worthing where they have already been able to think about employing more staff. Bingo is not like other gambling activities as it is an important social activity for many communities and therefore should be subjected to lower tax. This was obvious from my visit to Worthing where there was a great atmosphere and where I very much enjoyed calling out the numbers.’
