Tim Loughton MP has raised local concerns regarding the future viability of trauma services in Worthing with the Health Minister Dr Pan Poulter.
The Minister confirmed that while the previous government had introduced greater private involvement into the NHS, the current government’s Health and Social Care Act 2012 ensures that commissioners must have regard to delivering integrated health care services.
Locally, there has been much concern raised by residents, Councillors and the two Worthing MPs about the viability of trauma services if the Coastal West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group awards the musculoskeletal contract to Bupa CSH Ltd. This will mean £30m loss for the Western Sussex NHS Foundation Trust who currently operate the contract
Tim Loughton said: ‘I will continue to fight with local Councillors and Sir Peter Bottomley MP to make sure our trauma services in Worthing are safeguarded. If that means another KWASH (Keep Worthing and Southlands Hospitals) campaign then that is what we will do. Rest assured, we will not stop until we are sure that our trauma services are safe’’
