Shoreham MP Tim Loughton has accused the UKIP councillor for Shoreham Beach Mick Clark for effectively stalling the work to finish the work to the Lower Beach Road car park and traffic improvements to Ferry Road. The work was due to follow on from the completion of the Adur Ferry Bridge and now looks like dragging on well into next year before starting. Tim has now teamed up with Shoreham Beach Residents Association to urge residents to press the County Council to go over the head of the councillor and approve the Traffic Regulation Order needed to initiate the work as a matter of urgency. Tim commented: ‘Every time I cross the Adur Ferry Bridge I am asked by residents when on earth the work to finish the south side of the bridge is going to take place. After the opening of our spectacular new bridge almost a year ago everyone was looking forward to new walkways to the east and west, an expanded car park and traffic improvements to Ferry Road. Instead we have a mess of fencing and bollards and apparently it is all down to Councillor Clark dragging his feet and keeping everyone in the dark about what is going on.
Last week an eagle-eyed resident spotted an announcement of the important Traffic Regulation Order in the back pages of the local paper. It announced a consultation on the changes which needs to be completed by October 2nd but no one knows about it and Councillor Clark did not even tell the local ward councillors. Clearly he is trying to scupper these improvements by stealth. We are therefore now urgently sending a leaflet round to every household urging them to respond to the consultation by October 2nd. They can return the leaflets to Atlantic Stores in Ferry Road, to my constituency office at 88a High Street or online. In addition I will holding a special street surgery on the south side of the bridge on Saturday 27th from 10-12 with Shoreham Beach councillors where people can return them.
