Following last week’s announcement that £350m will be invested into the A27 to fund upgrades, Tim Loughton MP is working with Sir Peter Bottomley MP, West Sussex County Council and other councils and residents to ensure that this translates into fully dualling the road through the Worthing stretch.
When the announcement was made in the House of Commons, Tim Loughton asked the Secretary of State for Transport Patrick McLoughlin whether dualling was still on the cards and the Minister responded that it was but that: ‘It is for local people to show their enthusiasm for such a scheme, so that we can move it forward.’
Following those comments, Tim Loughton asked Major Tom Wye to set up a Worthing A27 Action Group to ensure that dualling will be delivered. As a former respected mayor of Worthing, Tom led the KWASH campaign which very successfully secured the future of local hospital services.
In order to achieve maximum support for the scheme, the campaign group will be inviting all the other parties to join the group as well as local businesses who have played an important part so far.
The group will convene in the coming weeks and will focus on trying to unite residents around dualling the A27 through high profile campaigning.
