For people living with mobility issues, sometimes simple things which everyone else takes for granted can take on a whole new dimension of difficulty. Going out to pick up prescriptions, doing the weekly shop or just getting out to see friends for some quality time can pose some real problems.
However, with the launch of the new Dial-a-Ride Southern Services, supported by Adur District Council, on Monday 3rd August 2015, some of these difficulties will be taken away by a team of friendly drivers able to pick Adur residents up from their doorsteps.
Offering a wide range of wheelchair accessible vehicles, the low cost service (fares are generally less than would be expected from a private taxi) is primarily aimed at those who are disabled or vulnerable - carers are also welcome to come for the journey too.
The Dial-a-Ride office takes bookings between 9:30am and 11:00am, Monday to Friday on 01903 530 053.
24-hours' notice is required and the bus service operates between 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Saturday, excluding bank holidays.
Councillor David Simmons, Executive Member for Health & Wellbeing at Adur District Council, comments:
“This is such an important service which has been missing from Adur for some time - so I'm absolutely delighted to see it starting back up in our community.”
“The drivers are friendly, helpful and know the area extremely well - they’ll even help you to your door with your shopping if you need. Many of us take an ease of getting around for granted, but for those who can’t do so, life can feel extremely isolated.”
“The Dial-A-Ride service might just prove to be an incredibly important part of breaking that isolation.”
