Tim Loughton has written to the Head of Sompting Village Primary school, Richard Cave, to congratulate him and all his staff on the school’s ‘good’ OFSTED rating.
Sompting Village Primary was rated a ‘good school’ with ‘outstanding’ behaviour and safety of pupils in its 2015 OFSTED report following an inspection earlier this month.
The report recognised the leadership’s commitment to achieving the best results and child well-being and praised the consistently good teaching and pupils’ positive attitudes to learning. Further commendation was given to the feedback that pupils receive and the curriculum which the inspectors said enabled pupils to make good progress in their academic studies as well as helping their social and cultural development. Parents were also found to be overwhelmingly positive about the school and would recommend it to others.
The ‘good’ rating comes despite the fact that the school faces a number of challenges. Sompting Village Primary is much larger than the average-sized primary school and the number of pupils receiving the pupil premium is above the national average. Added to that, the school also has to contend with a higher than average number of disabled and special educational needs children.
Commenting, Tim said: “This is terrific news and something for all of Sompting to shout about. Richard Cave and his team have done a superb job of making Sompting Village Primary an education establishment to be proud of. I was particularly pleased to see the inspectors’ comments on the curriculum which is clearly aimed at proving the best academic education but all the while ensuring the children leave as well rounded individuals. Well done Sompting Village Primary!”
