Tim Loughton MP attended the National Silver Pearson Teaching Awards 2015 prize-giving on the Terrace in the House of Commons to congratulate local teacher Alexandra Holmes.
On Thursday 2nd June, Alexandra was awarded Science Teacher of the Year for her work at Davison Church of England High School, Worthing.
Over 7,000 nominations were received in 2015, therefore winning one of just 61 Silver Teaching Awards presented this year is an exceptional achievement.
All 61 Silver Teaching Award winners celebrated in 2015 are also invited to the grand UK finals of the Pearson Teaching Awards, to be held at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden on 18th October. At this event, they will find out who has won one of just 10 prestigious Gold Plato Awards. This ceremony is filmed and broadcast by the BBC.
Commenting, Tim said:
“It was a great honour to be there when Alexandra was awarded national recognition for her hard work. I am incredibly proud of what she has achieved and I know that her family, friends, colleagues and pupils will be too. Worthing is very lucky to have her teach our children. I wish her all the best for the Gold Plato Awards later this year. Well done Alexandra!”
