New Beach Huts Approved

Friday, 11 March, 2022

New beach huts are set to brighten the Lancing coastline after approval for eight new structures was given the green light.

Adur District Council has approved plans for Lancing Parish Council to build the new beach huts at Beach Green, to the southeast of the bandstand and an existing group of huts at the western edge of the green.

The 2.6m x 2.4m huts will be built in two blocks of four and will all have pitched roofs. Lancing Parish Council said that four of the huts will be for private sale, but plans to keep the other four for community use.

Earlier plans for 20 beach huts at the site were voluntarily amended by Lancing Parish Council due to concerns about parking and the need to protect open views of the coastline.

Cllr Carol Albury, the Chair of the Council’s planning committee, said: “There is a huge demand for beach huts up and down the coast, so I am sure the construction of eight new huts in such a desirable location will be much welcomed.

“I’m glad to see that the concerns over the need to preserve sea views for the whole community was taken into account by Lancing Parish Council. The Council’s plans to keep four of the huts for community use is also great to hear and I look forward to finding out more about how the community will be able to use this fantastic asset.”

Demand for beach huts and chalets in Adur and Worthing is high and the waiting list for Council-owned huts is several years long. Visit the council website for more information on beach huts in Adur and Worthing.
