Racing Ahead
Tim Loughton MP has opened the new McClaren engine plant at Ricardo's in Shoreham. Tim said
"Are you aware that Shoreham now actually manufactures the state of the art and environmentally friendly engines which go into the new McLaren sports car which is set to rival Ferrari? I was asked to open, officially, the state of the art high performance assembly facility at Ricardo’s where they have designed and are now manufacturing the world’s greenest supercar engine. This is the new McLaren MP4-12C sports car and it is a great British partnership for two innovative British companies Ricardo of Shoreham and McLaren of Woking. With advanced orders for the next 2 years at 200,000 Euros a pop that is great news for this all British duo and a real feather in the cap for Shoreham as well as having created at least 40 new jobs locally. Just imagine a V8 twin engine turbo sports car that can put a sticker in the back window that says ‘I’m doing my bit for the environment!"
Coastal West Sussex vice chair Cllr Bryan Turner added "This is great news for the area. Together with the Rolls Royce site at Chichester, this shows that we are right up there when it comes to new hi tech industries."
Cllr Jim Funnell, of Adur District Council, added, "This is a fillip for the area especially Adur and I am very pleased that this contract will create extra jobs which is most welcome in these difficult times`.
