Artists are being offered the opportunity to showcase their work to thousands of visitors to Worthing seafront as expressions of interest to exhibit at the spectacular Seafront Gallery are invited.

To give a boost to the local art industry as the country moves out of lockdown, Worthing Borough Council with support from the team at the creative hub Colonnade House, is offering the exhibition space with no hire fee throughout 2021.

The outdoor gallery features five stone-filled gabion plinths and is situated a short walk west of Worthing Pier on the promenade - an area which attracts a high footfall throughout the year. It is an increasingly popular destination for residents and visitors to the seaside town with its wide range of pop-up food and drink traders and seasonal attractions.

The art gallery was built last year to host the Photo Fringe Open Solo Award winner and shortlist of 19 contemporary, international photographers from the festival launch in October 2020. It is one of a number of outdoor art exhibition spaces in Worthing, which includes the Pier and two of the seafront shelters, designed to make art accessible to everyone and safe to enjoy during the pandemic.

Proposals are now invited for future exhibitions at The Seafront Gallery, which has 20 display surfaces across the five plinths and is accessible via a beachside path as well as the promenade. Hire periods will be for four to six months.

Worthing Borough Council's Executive Member for Customer Services, Dr Heather Mercer said:

“We're delighted to be able to offer, for free, this fantastic gallery space, as a continuation of our efforts to support local businesses to bounce back from the impact of the COVID pandemic.

“The Seafront Gallery has been a very much-welcomed and interesting addition to our seafront and offers a great opportunity to host public exhibitions and reach large numbers of people.”
